Oil container stuck under South Delhi bridge,traffic crawls

Peak hour traffic was thrown out of gear on the Modi Mill-Pamposh Enclave stretch on the Outer Ring Road,South Delhi,on Wednesday morning after an oil refinery container got stuck under the foot-overbridge. Morning commuters had to face traffic snarls as the container remained stuck under the bridge since 4 am. The container occupied one and a half lane on the road. “The situation worsened specially during the peak hours. We used gas cutters to remove the container,” said Satyendra Garg,Joint CP (Traffic).

Clear unauthorised colonies under power lines: Transco to MCD

New Delhi: The Delhi Transco plans to ask the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Public Works Department to remove all unauthorised structures under its lines. The move follows last week’s incident at Khajoori Khas,when an earth wire from one of Transco’s transmission lines snapped and fell over a group of hutments directly underneath it,leading to a fire. In a press statement on Wednesday,Transco said the main cause for the incident was the presence of an unauthorised colony under the power lines.

Kalmadi complains of illness,taken to city hospital from Tihar

NEW DELHI: Former Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi,lodged in Tihar Jail after being arrested for his alleged involvement in a Commonwealth Games-related scam,had to be admitted to a city hospital for almost three hours on Wednesday after he complained of giddiness. Kalmadi was rushed to DDU hospital around 11 am after he informed prison officials that he was not feeling well,and required medical attention. Tihar law officer Sunil Gupta said: “Kalmadi remained in the hospital for almost three hours,after which he was taken back to his ward in Tihar. Doctors at the prison are currently attending on him.”
