Meeting today to remember V P Dutt
NEW DELHI: Dr V P Dutt,foreign policy expert and doyen of China Studies in India,passed away on April 26. He was 86. A condolence meeting will be held at Teen Murti Bhawan at 11.30 am on Sunday. Dutts association with China started in 1950 when he travelled to the country as Assistant Secretary in the first Indian government cultural delegation. He set up the Department of Chinese and Japanese Studies in Delhi University where he became Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
Two betting syndicates busted
New Delhi: Two betting syndicates operating in the city during IPL matches were busted,with the arrests of seven persons. Counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 1.62 lakh was found in the possession of one of the gangs. Four were arrested from Poothkalan village on Thursday for allegedly betting during the Delhi Daredevils-Kolkata Knight Riders match. In the second case reported from Outer Delhis K N Katju Marg area on Friday,three persons were held.
Civic polls: 127 file nominations
Gurgaon: As many as 127 candidates filed their papers on the third day of filing nominations for the municipal polls,taking the total so far to 170.
Will challenge HC order on tower fee
New Delhi: The MCD on Saturday decided that it will stick by it decision on increasing the installation fee of mobile towers and challenge the Delhi High Court order quashing their decision. The MCD had increased the fee from Rs one lakh to Rs five lakh.
