Ghaziabad: Two sisters were killed after they were run over by the Shatabdi Express near Sikari railway crossing in the city early on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 7.45 am when the girls,Romina (7) and Varsha (5),were on way to school. The two are daughters of one Manoj,a resident of Vishwakarma Bhakti Colony. We have ordered an inquiry and the bodies have been sent for postmortem, police said. The two girls reportedly tried to cross the railway line after a local train passed. They didnt notice the high-speed Shatabdi train approaching and were crushed, police added.

Rs 2 lakh for family of accident victim

New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh for the family of Jaspreet Kaur,final-year Delhi University student,who was one of the four people killed in a road accident in Dhaula Kuan on Sunday. Dikshit also visited Kaurs family. She was a student at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. Four people were killed when a speeding tanker lorry rammed into them at a bus stop in Dhaula Kuan here after hitting a DTC bus and an autorickshaw.

Property dealer beaten to death,wife arrested

New Delhi: A 45-year-old property dealer,Mohammed Ilyas,was bludgeoned to death with a cricket bat and a steel pipe in Bindapur,Southwest Delhi,on Tuesday morning. Police have arrested his wife and are on the lookout for his son. Ilyas had returned recently from Saudi Arabia. Police claimed that he got into an argument with his wife over the sale of a building. It is alleged that he was attacked soon after. Neighbours alerted the police who came and arrested his wife.
