Four people affected by the radiation from a Gamma Irradiator sold by the Delhi University’s Chemistry Department were handed over compensation by the University on Friday.

Four people affected by the radiation from a Gamma Irradiator sold by the Delhi University’s Chemistry Department were handed over compensation by the University on Friday. Ram Jiyavan,Gaurav,Ram Kalap Yadav and Himanshu Jain were given Rs 2 lakh each. The University has also offered a regular job to Nandani Devi,widow of Rajender Prasad,who died after exposure to radiation. The University will hand over the compensation due to her later.

Policemen held hostage by villagers
Ghaziabad: A sub-inspector and five constables were held hostage and their weapons snatched by the villagers of Kalipur Kotla on Friday. The policemen claimed they went to the village to arrest a person accused of attempt to murder. There is a rivalry between two families of the village. One of the families had accused one Fazlu in an FIR of trying to kill the members of their family. However,the villagers blamed the police to have received Rs 2 lakh for dropping Fazlu’s name from the list. The police has recovered the rifle but the pistol is still missing.

Model accuses financier of rape
A 24-year-old Mumbai-based model alleged she was raped by an music album financier in Hotel Cabana in Greater Kailash area of Southeast Delhi. The accused,Umesh Aggarwal,a native of Jaipur,is on the the run after the case was registered against him on June 9,a police officer said. The victim had in January approached the National Commission for Women (NCW) after she came to know that Umesh — who according to the victim had proposed marriage to her — is already married and has two children. The NCW also wrote a letter to the Senior Superintendent of Police of Jaipur,asking the Jaipur police to lodge an FIR since the accused had taken the victim there. But the case was later transferred to the Delhi Police as the woman was allegedly raped in a hotel in Greater Kailash area of the Capital. “Umesh met me in December and we became friends. He wanted to make an album with me but later dropped the idea. Meanwhile,he took me to Jaipur where he proposed marriage.”

“We registered an FIR after we were asked by the NCW. No arrests have been made in the case,” a senior police officer said.

UP police personnel arrested for theft
The police apprehended one Rajeev,who is employed with UP police home guard,for allegedly stealing a bike from Khanjawala area of Delhi. The police said the stolen vehicle was disposed off by the accused somewhere in western UP Rajeev is a resident of Bhasana village in Muzaffarnagar,UP. He has been previously arrested in two cases of the Excise Act.

Metro Rail might be extended to Ballabhgarh
Faridabad: With the Delhi Metro reaching up to Badarpur border by September this year,the Haryana government claims to have sanctioned the extension of the Metro Rail up to the Industrial Model Township (IMT),Faridabad. This line will later on be extended to Ballabhgarh. This was stated by Haryana Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati while addressing the 57th annual general meeting of Faridabad Industrial Association at Faridabad on Friday.

Chargesheet filed in Soumya case
A day after asking for more time to file its probe report in the Soumya Vishwanathan murder case,the Delhi Police on Friday withdrew their plea from the court and filed the chargesheet against four accused in the case. The police filed the 489-page chargesheet under Section 3 of MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act) against Ajay Sethi,Baljeet Singh Malik,Amit Shukla and Ajay Kumar. The four accused,except Ajay Sethi,were booked for murder,robbery,cheating and possessing stolen properties.
