The mystery person who allegedly beat up his 10-year-old house help brutally, has turned out to be a faculty member at Jamia Milia Islamia. He is yet to be arrested.

Police have traced the assistant professor’s Jamia Nagar address, two months after the boy ran away from his house, through call records of the victim’s father.

Incidentally, the assistant professor, who was heading one of the placement cells of the psychology department, has published articles against child abuse.

Police said the house of the professor has been found to be locked. A resident of district Araria in Bihar, the boy was found outside a car showroom on Mathura Road on August 17 by police, with several burn marks on his feet.

An FIR was registered against an unknown person for violation of the Juvenile Justice Act,and appropriate sections of the IPC. The boy alleged that his employer’s wife would beat him regularly with a pair of tongs whenever he made any mistake at work.

According to a police official investigating the case,“The boy said he worked for the person for a month and lived near Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station. He was paid Rs 600 as monthly wages. The only description he gave us was that his employer taught in a college, and carried a black bag. Though we took him with us to the Nizamuddin station several times,he could never manage to locate the house.”

On the orders of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC),Lajpat Nagar, the boy was put under the care of an NGO-run child care home till investigations were on.

Meanwhile, the police managed to trace the boy’s father with the help of the Bihar police.

“His father came to Delhi on his own last month, and instead of going to the police,he approached the NGO home where the boy was staying. They directed him to the police, and the NGO produced him before the CWC,” the police official said.

“When we traced the phone details of the boy’s father,we found that he had made repeated calls to this professor’s number. We are still investigating the role of the father, but it appears he was trying to protect the employer,” the official said.

Police found out the address of the professor. When he was taken there, the boy recognised the house.
