The ambience at Ca Va is relaxing,almost like a spa,with a soothing fragrance of lemon grass that permeates the space. For a week day dinner,the 42 – cover restaurant had just another family of five at a table at the far end. If you head out to dine here,do make sure you have enough company to keep you busy till the food arrives. Else you can head out to the bar and sample their liquor menu. Our starters over,we began the long wait for our main courses to arrive,almost running out of conversation by the time the tenderloin steak with red wine mushroom sauce (Rs 475) and a Spanish paella with shrimp and saltwater fish (Rs 495) arrived at the table.

The steak was cooked just right,the mushroom sauce was delectable,and a extra portion of sauce was promptly delivered when we asked for it. The paella with its round short grain rice,calamari rings and the fish chunks tasted fresh. The swollen rice grains clung to each other like they should and were not too sticky,though they could have done with more flavour. The tried and tested chocolate volcano (Rs 225) would probably have been a better option to wrap up our meal with,but for dessert,we chose the chef’s surprise with cheesecake and pavlova (Rs 210). With loads of fruit,the cheesecake was almost a thin pastry filled with fresh fruit and cream. However,we would have appreciated it more if the cheesecake flavour came through.
