A city court has directed Delhi Police to file an FIR and start investigation against the CEO of website MakeMyTrip.com Deep Kalra and an employee of the travel site for cheating and breaching of trust, based on a complaint by a lawyer.
Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria directed the Tilak Marg police station to file an FIR based on the complaint of the lawyer, Tarun Rana.
In his complaint, the lawyer alleged that the travel website had booked sub-standard rooms for a family trip to South India even though he had paid for five-star accommodation. Rana had also alleged that before leaving for the trip, he had spoken to an employee of the website, Cecelia Desouza, over the phone to ensure that the hotel rooms booked for his family were of five-star standard.
However when the family reached their destination, Rana alleged that the website had booked rooms for them in two and three-star hotels. “They had assured us in writing that they would provide four and five-star standard rooms,” Rana alleged.
Police had initially refused to file an FIR, claiming that the issue was a civil dispute. The magistrate, however, noted that the case was of both civil and criminal nature and directed police to register an FIR for breach of trust and cheating. Police have also been asked to file a report in the case by October 7.
