PM breached parliamentary privilege: BJP
The BJP,on Monday, accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of “overlooking” Parliament on the Commonwealth Games controversy while making a statement outside it,saying it was a “clear breach of privilege”. BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the Prime Minister was “silent” on the issue of corruption in the CWG while the Opposition was raising it for 15 days in Parliament, and had then held a meeting to make his statement. The Prime Minister, who chaired a meeting to review preparations for the Games on Saturday, had clipped the wings of organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi and given overriding powers to a committee of secretaries, headed by the Cabinet Secretary,to supervise preparations for the October event. “Instead of taking Parliament into confidence, the Prime Minister preferred to make comments outside it,” Rudy said.

Govt to crack down on fake tour guides
In a bid to prevent tourists from being harassed, the government has decided to act tough against unauthorised tour operators and guides. A special drive has been launched in the Capital to identify people working without proper authorisation as tour managers, touts and tourist guides ahead of the Commonwealth Games. “We will take stringent action against those involved in such acts. We have asked the Delhi police to take stringent measures against fake tour operators and guides operating here,” Union Tourism Minister Kumari Selja said. “The Commonwealth Games are a prestigious event and we are concerned about the security and safety of both domestic and foreign visitors,” she said, adding that no stone would be left unturned in this regard.
