Senior citizen’s body found
The body of a 68-year-old man was found in his flat in Rajouri Garden on Friday. The body of the deceased,Devendra Kumar,was found with severe head injuries. The police received a call at 10.30 pm from the neighbours. A robbery angle is being investigated,police said.
Double murder in Gokulpuri
Two young men were found dead in a park in Gokulpuri on Friday evening. The men,in their early 20s,had injury marks on their bodies. It may be a double murder, a police officer said. The police confirmed that one of the deceased has been identified as Nazim,a resident of Gokulpuri,while they still have to establish the identity of the other body. Initial investigations point to the possibilty of a double murder and it seems that the two men were strangulated. The dead bodies have been taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital for autopsy.
Saleswoman raped
A 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man at Garhi Chowkhandi in Noida area on Wednesday. The girl,who works as a saleswoman,was called up by the accused,who told her to meet him at the Sector 50 market. A police officer said: The victim said she knew the accused,Jaiveer Singh Yadav. The girl alleged the accused took her to a secluded place and raped her thrice. The accused has been arrested and medical reports confirmed rape, said the officer.
Life term for killing daughter
A city court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his 12-year-old daughter after raping her as he suspected her to be an illegitimate child,born of a relationship between his wife and brother-in-law. The court held Mangal Singh guilty of rape and murder. The court,however,rejected the prosecutions demand of death penalty.
Rs 4-lakh burglary in temple
IN an incident of temple burglary,unidentified burglars broke into a temple in East Delhi on Friday early in the morning and got away with cash and jewellery worth Rs four lakh. Police have registered a case of burglary. The burglary,according to police,was reported from Radha Krishna temple in Pandav Nagar area. The temple priest called us in the morning informing that jewellery in the temple was missing, said an officer.
Stadium to be ready by Dec 15
The Commonwealth Organising Committee Chairperson Suresh Kalmadi has said the Dhyan Chand National Stadium will be redeveloped and ready for use by December 15. During an inspection of the site on Friday,Kalmadi said work at the stadium was on track and will be completed nearly a month ahead of the test event. A four-nation hockey tournament will be played from January 13 to 17 next year at the stadium.
1 held for carrying explosives
One person was arrested,while two others managed to escape,while carrying large quantities of chemicals which can be used for making explosives. The Faruq Nagar police said the three men had as many as 26 sacks of chemicals and elements which are used to make explosives. One person,Netra Pal,was arrested,while his two aides fled.
Rs 15 lakh snatched
Two youths riding a motorcycle snatched more than Rs 15 lakh from a person who had withdrawn the money in North Delhis Shalimar Bagh on Friday. The incident took place outside Punjab National Bank,when the victim,Rajendra Prasad,was trying to start his bike. Police said the two youths riding a Pulsar bike then snatched a travel bag,containing Rs 15,60,000 from Prasad. Prasad had taken out the money on behalf of a Pitampura-based builder Vijay Goel.
Penal charges in Jigisha case
A city court is expected to frame penal charges on Saturday against the five accused in the murder case of BPO executive Jigisha Ghosh,the probe into which had also led to cracking of journalist Soumya Vishwanathans murder mystery. The court concluded arguments on charge on Friday after the prosecution and defence adduced their respective arguments.
