Bling and Fanfare

The opening of designer Charu Parasher’s flagship store at one of Delhi’s glitziest addresses also put the spotlight on the varied faces of the fashion buying republic. The charming Princess Diya Kumari of Jaipur opened the black-and-gold-themed store at The Gallery Mall on MG Road. Dressed in a well-chosen peach chiffon sari,a string of pearls and a Chanel bag,the princess confessed she found Parasher’s designs wearable and had taken to them a few years ago.

But,not everyone was dressed as classically. While the designer herself wore one of her eye-catching ensembles with a big bindi,some older women in the crowd paired blingy costumes with dizzyingly high heels. The men seemed happy huddled with their drinks. Parasher wasn’t bashful about what her guests termed flamboyant. “A designer is always thrilled with the opening of a flagship store; it is after all the first milestone,that’s why I didn’t want my store to look New Age,” she said.
