“Rohit and his mother were trying to find an autorickshaw when suddenly,two men on a bike came and snatched her chain. When Rohit tried to stop them,one of them shot at him with his revolver. Injured in the shoulder,he was rushed to Holy Family Hospital. We have registered a case of snatching,attempted murder and unlawful possession of arms under the Arms Act,” a senior police officer said.

Darshan said they were residents of Kalkaji.

“We were trying to flag down an autorickshaw after our car had a flat tyre. Suddenly,two men on a motorcycle came and snatched my chain. Rohit held the man’s arm and,in the struggle,the chain dropped from his hand. Rohit tried to give chase even though I shouted at him to return,” she told Newsline .

When the chain snatchers found that the road was blocked,they tried to get away from a side street. “Rohit continued following them,and that was when one of them fired. When I reached,my son was lying on the ground and his shoulder was bleeding. A passerby informed police,and we brought him to the hospital,” Darshan said.

Rohit,who underwent surgery in the evening,is currently under observation. He is married with two children,aged six and three.
