Nothing to panic about: Sheila
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has appealed for calm and said that there is no need to worry . I am in constant touch with the Police Commissioner. The police are investigating into the incident and culprits will be caught. Everything is under control, she said. An incident like this is something worrying but nothing to panic about, she added.
The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee seemed to be on a fire-fighting mode hours after the attack on Taiwanese tourists in front of Jama Masjid.
Commonwealth Games Federation CEO Mike Hooper also spoke in the same tone. It will not be appropriate to comment or speculate about the incident at this moment. Let the Delhi Police do their job, Hooper said.
The Commonwealth Games Associations (CGA) are, however, flooding the Organising Committee with queries about the incident and security implications. I have received only one query from one Commonwealth Games Association and I shall not reveal the name, Hooper added.
Meanwhile,at the Games Village too there were a few tense voices. We are aware of the incident. But at the same time we are all comfortable with the security cover that the Delhi Police is providing us. The security arrangement at the Games village are reassuring, said Chris Jenkins,Chef De Mission of Wales. Jenkins and other Chef De Missions who are in Delhi have sent detailed mails to their respective CGAs about the security situation.
We brief our team daily and yesterday I had sent them a detailed mail on the security arrangements in Delhi. We are very impressed with Delhi Polices efforts, Jenkins added.
