Around Town : BSF constable commits suicide

The body of a Border Security Force constable was found hanging from a tree inside the training camp of the paramilitary forces near Bhondsi on Monday.

Gurgaon:The body of a Border Security Force (BSF) constable was found hanging from a tree inside the training camp of the paramilitary forces near Bhondsi on Monday. Sources said the constable was missing from the daily morning physical training session. Later,his colleagues found the body. The constable,Kanwal Singh (28), from Kharar Alipur village in Hisar district,had been depressed,police said. According to police,Singh had not left a suicide note. Police suspect some family issues might have prompted him to take the extreme step.

Man gets gaurdianship of mentally-ill brother

New Delhi:A man has been appointed by a Delhi court the guardian of his mentally-challenged brother for receiving his pension,with a direction that he would not use the court’s order to sell his property. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) O P Gupta said,“In view of the certificate from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital,the petition is allowed and the petitioner is appointed as guardian in respect of his brother Sarvjeet Singh Dhingra for purpose of receiving pension,” the court said.

The judge also made it clear that the order will not entitle the petitioner,Harkirat Singh Dhingra,to dispose off property,if any,of his mentally-challenged brother on its basis.

Harkirat had approached the court seeking guardianship of his mentally-challenged brother Sarvjeet,who was also suffering from schizophrenia (a mental disorder which makes it difficult to think logically).

Man robbed of Rs 15 lakh at gunpoint

New Delhi:A businessman was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday night in Saket area when he was returning home with Rs 15 lakh cash. Yogesh Sakuja,a resident of Saket’s J Block area,was driving when three men in a Maruti car waylaid him. At gunpoint,they asked him to hand over the cash following which they fled. Sakuja managed to note down car’s registration number and gave it to police.A case has been registered and further investigation is on.

RWAs to launch campaign asking residents to vote

New Delhi:A campaign has been designed by the RWAs in consultation with the State Election Commission asking citizens to vote. State Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta on Monday unveiled a poster,with the punchline “If you don’t vote,you don’t count”,which will be pasted by the RWAs in their localities across the city. “This is a joint initiative by the RWAs and the Election Commission to encourage people to come out in large numbers and vote in the municipal polls,” said Mehta. The initiative has been taken up by United Resident Joint Action (URJA),the apex body of the RWAs in Delhi.
