Asiad Complex likely to be sealed
Ten years after the Bhure Lal Committee ordered the closure of banquet facilities at the Asiad Complex under the Environment Protection Act,the complex,a popular destination for weddings,is likely to be sealed. Siri Fort residents have been fighting a bitter battle in court asking for the shutdown. On Friday,expert K G Rao and Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority chairperson Bhure Lal inspected the area with the Delhi Development Authority and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials. They recommended that be complex be sealed immediately.

Four arrested for Sarai Rohilla robbery
With the arrested of a domestic help and her husband,the North Delhi police solved the robbery in Sarai Rohilla in which robbers had held a woman and her one-and-a-half-year-old son hostage to commit robbery on Wednesday. Officials said Kanima (27) planned the robbery with her husband Ajay (30). Their two accomplices,Sonu (25) and Ganga (28),have also been arrested.

‘Cooler gang’ strikes; fourth in fortnight
The “cooler gang” struck again in a home in East Delhi’s Ghazipur area — the fourth incident in a fortnight. The gang allegedly mixes sleep-inducing drugs in the water in desert coolers. Once the residents are asleep,the gang burgles the house. The incident took place at the home of one Mohammed Hanifuddin (45),who was sleeping with his wife Ruksana in the bedroom. Hanifuddin,who normally wakes up at 4 am,could get up at 6.30 am with a headache. He noticed that two mobile phones and Rs 32,500 cash were missing,” a police officer said.

Staff held for staging robbery
Four persons were arrested for allegedly staging a robbery of Rs 66,000. The police claimed to have recovered Rs 60,000 recovered from them. Anil (23) and Nagender (35),the employees of Nangli Poona-based R P Enterprises and S P Enterprises,had claimed they were robbed by two assailants on Wednesday. Investigations,however,revealed that the duo had asked two of their associates — Binod (30) and Ranbir (20) — to stage the robbery. All four have been arrested.

Cop testifies against Abu Salem
A police inspector Pankaj Singh on Saturday testified against underworld don Abu Salem,who is being tried in a Delhi court under the MCOCA for allegedly demanding Rs 5 crore as protection money from a Delhi-based businessman. In another extortion case against Salem,Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kiran Bansal fixed July 5 for next hearing of the case.

Two die in accident
A 42-year-old man and a woman were killed when an unidentified vehicle hit their scooter in North Delhi. The incident was reported at 11.30 pm on Friday night at Timarpur.

Bricklayer abducted
NOIDA: A bricklayer,18, was allegedly abducted by acquaintances from his village in Bulandshahr. The police registered a case of kidnapping after Sonu’s brother filed a complaint.
