Nigerian among two arrested for e-mail lottery scam

New Delhi: A Nigerian national and a Manipuri woman were arrested by Crime Branch officers for their alleged involvement in an e-mail lottery scam. Obaseki Prince (32) from Nigeria and Boni Sushila James (26) from Manipur were arrested outside the IGI Airport on February 24. They were detained over a complaint filed by Rakesh (21),who claimed that he was cheated of Rs 90,000 by the duo,who had allegedly told him that he had won a 7.5-lakh pound lottery. The duo had accumulated Rs 35 lakh through similar scams since March last year.

After 14 years,man arrested for killing father over land

New Delhi: A graduate who had disappeared 14 years ago after being charged with murdering his father,was arrested in Saket by South Delhi police on Thursday. The accused,Karamvir Singh,had allegedly killed his father 17 years ago. Stating that the accused was a Delhi University graduate,Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said,“He had purchased a 500-sq yard plot in his father’s name. However,his father later sold the plot without his consent. Angered by this,Singh had shot his father down.”

Cabbie held for ferrying women without guard

New Delhi: The police,on Thursday arrested the driver of a prominent low-cost airline in South Delhi for ferrying women at night in the absence of a security escort. “The accused,Rohit Gehlot (20),has revealed that BPOs as well as other such organisations are acquainted with notifications issued in this regard,” an officer said. Gehlot was arrested in Chirag Dilli early on Wednesday morning.

Guard at Uzbek Embassy held for opening fire

New Delhi: A 25-year-old constable of Meghalaya’s Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB),posted at the Uzbekistan Embassy in the Chanakyapuri area,was arrested on Wednesday night for arbitrarily firing at the ground in an inebriated state. “The incident was reported at 9.15 pm on Wednesday at Gate II of the Uzbekistan Embassy on Dr Radhakrishnan Marg. The offender has been identified as constable Jotis Smess,” an officer said. A case was registered at the Chanakyapuri police station,and Smess was later released on bail.

Domestic help found dead in East Delhi,police say suicide

New Delhi:A 22-year-old domestic help allegedly committed suicide in East Delhi’s AGCR Colony on Wednesday night. Though the deceased’s relatives have alleged that the man was murdered,the police have ruled out foul play,stating that the deceased’s body bore no external injury marks. An officer said,“Santosh Yadav,who hails from Samastipur,was found hanging from the ceiling fan at 264,AGCR Colony,around 9 am on Thursday. Yadav had been working as a domestic help for the last three years.”
