IGNOU on Friday launched four new academic programmes — Programmes in Anthropology,Bachelors and Masters degrees in psychology,an Academic Councellors’ Training online programme and another programme in geology.

Rs 11.25 cr fine for delay in Airport Line
The DMRC slapped a penalty of of Rs 11.25 crore on the Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt Ltd,a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure,for failing to meet the deadline and start the line from August 31. The concessionaire was awarded the line for 30 years on PPP model,a first in Delhi Metro’s history. As per the agreement between the two parties,if the project was not completed by the scheduled date,the concessionaire was liable to pay damages. If the operations do not begin by October 31,DMRC can terminate the contract.

President should open Games: BJP
Demanding that Prince Charles should not declare the Games open since President Pratibha Patil will also be present at the function,BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra has shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Malhotra claimed that since the President holds the supreme position under the protocol observed in any function in India,Patil should declare the Games open.

Mayapuri report tabled in DU meet
The 124-page report of the three-member committee appointed by DU to conduct a probe in the Mayapuri radiation incident was tabled in the DU Executive Council meeting headed by V-C Deepak Pental on Friday. No discussion,however,took place as members insisted on more time to study the report. Some members also said that since the V-C was an accused,he could not chair a meeting in the matter. The EC is set to reconvene on October 4 to discuss the report in detail. The report reportedly blames no individual and holds the DU Chemistry Department collectively responsible.

One Metro coach for women from today
The Metro will run trains with one coach reserved specially for women Saturday onwards as a Gandhi Jayanti gift for women commuters. In view of the increasing number of women passengers travelling on the Metro,the DMRC has decided to reserve the first coach in every train for women passengers.
