Six cops held for framing man,kin
A Delhi court on Monday sentenced six policemen,including a Superintendent of Police from Uttar Pradesh,to two years in jail for illegally detaining the family of a man and for forging evidence against his relatives for his marrying a woman whose family did not approve of the match. On August 13,1994,the police had allegedly picked up Ghaziabad-based businessman Raj Pal Dhall and three other relatives and extorted confessions from them after a complaint was filed by the family of Geeta,who Dhalls son Atul had eloped with and married at a Delhi temple.
84 riots case adjourned due to bandh,ill health
A Delhi court on Monday adjourned for a day the proceedings in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case allegedly involving senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar,as the defence counsel failed to appear before it citing the strike on Monday,as well asa key witness failing to depose due to to ill-health. Jagdish Kaur has high blood pressure. She was not feeling well as she had to repeat the same statements many times, said H S Phoolka,senior advocate appearing for the victims.
Tandoor case: Sushil Sharma seeks parole
Former Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress president Sushil Sharma,sentenced to death for killing his wife 15 years ago,on Monday approached the High Court seeking three months parole to attend to his ailing parents. Directing the Delhi Police to file a status report,Justice Hima Kohli fixed July 19 as the date for further hearing.
Woman killed in house collapse
A woman was killed and four of her family members,including three minors,injured when the lintel of the roof of their house collapsed following heavy rains in Ashok Vihars Sawan Park Extension on Monday evening,fire department officials said. Savitri,32,was rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead.
Under financial stress,couple attempt suicide
Depressed over their financial conditions and frequent fights,a couple allegedly attempted suicide in Outer Delhi,the police said on Monday. The incident was reported from Aman Vihar around midnight. The couple are admitted in the hospital and police is yet to record their statement. Vinod (32),a temporary employee with the MCD,consumed a poisonous substance,while his wife Neetu (28) allegedly jumped off the balcony of her house. Both are in a critical state.
