Transporter,ex-airline staffer’s houses burgled in 24 hours
Unidentified burglars broke into the apartment of a 35-year-old transporter and made away with cash and jewellery worth lakhs in Prashant Vihar,Northeast Delhi,on Monday afternoon. Police said Anil Shokeen had gone to the nearby car service station when the incident occurred. When Shokeen returned to his Chinar Apartment residence around 3 pm,he found the locks broken and the house ransacked. The police said they suspect the involvement of an insider in the burglary. A case has been registered at Prashant Vihar police station. In another incident,the apartment of a retired Indian Airlines staffer was burgled in Rohini Sector 9. The house was lying locked for the past few days as the owner,A N Rai,is in the US to meet his sons who are settled there,the police said. “The neighbours called Rai and the police after they saw the locks broken and the house ransacked,” the police said.

10-yr RI for causing death
A Delhi court on Monday sentenced a physically challenged man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for stabbing a person to death. The court held that the violence had followed a dispute over a trivial issue and the convict did not have an intention to kill the victim. Sanjeev Kumar Singh,a resident of Okhla Industrial Area,was convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Singh had stabbed the victim with a knife in the chest. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Singh.

Godman’s term extended
A Delhi court on Monday extended the judicial custody of Shiv Murat Dwivedi,the self-styled godman arrested for running a flesh trade,by 14 days. Metropolitan Magistrate Ravindra Singh remanded Dwivedi in judicial custody till June 7. The police recently filed a chargesheet under the provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act against Dwivedi and seven others.

Attack on excise officers
Noida: Two Motorcycle-borne youths allegedly attacked excise department officers deployed near Kalindi checkpost in Noida on Monday. After receiving a tip-off about a vehicle carrying illegal liquor,excise inspector Avnish Pandey put up the checkpost near Kalindi. According to the FIR,Pandey and constable Dheeraj Kumar asked a motorcycle to stop. “Both the driver and the pillion rider sped past. They later hit the constable with a brick,” read the FIR. The constable was rushed to the district hospital with head injuries. A case of preventing government officers from performing duty and causing hurt has been lodged against the unknown assailants.

27-year-old found dead
Ghaziabad: A 27-year-old youth was found shot dead in Badalpur village of Gautam Buddha Nagar on Monday morning. Ashok Yadav was the resident of Vijay Nagar,Ghaziabad. The Ghaziabad police said according to his family he had gone to his in-laws in Kavi Nagar last evening but never reached there.

Notorious criminals held
With the arrest of two persons,the South Delhi police have nabbed criminals who were involved in 23 incidents of robberies and shop burglaries. Asif Ali and Akram were facing charges under the Gangster Act and Arms Act in Delhi and Ghaziabad,said the police. Many articles including a motorcycle,equipment used to break shops and stereos have been recovered from them.
