The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought assistance of the Attorney General (AG) to decide whether the government can be directed to pay compensation to a accident victim,if the vehicle involved belonged to the government. The court has sought the AG’s response after the government refused to compensate the relatives of a man who died after he was crushed by an Indian Air Force truck in May 1999. The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal had last year directed the Air Force to pay Rs 4.75 lakh to the victim’s family.

DJB tanker rams bike,one dead
A Delhi Jal Board tanker rammed into a motorcycle in Delhi Cantonment area of South Delhi and killed a 26-year-old man on Monday night. The police said the victim Anil Kumar was returning to his home in Gurgaon. “It seems that the tanker was speeding when it hit the motorcyclist,” a police officer said. The driver of the tanker,Bunakar Rai,has been arrested and a case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against him.

Workshop for MCD councillors
The MCD will hold a day-long workshop on November 27 to help its councillors get acquainted with the Delhi Municipal Act 1957,Building Bye Laws and provisions of Masterplan 2021. The workshop will be held at Vigyan Bhawan.

Robbery bid foiled,five held
The Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have foiled a robbery bid in a bank by arresting five dacoits of the ‘Mustkeem and Rahis Pagla gang’. The police said the five were arrested on Monday near the Jangpura flyover in South Delhi while they were allegedly on their way to target a nationalised bank. “Mustkeem (35),Rahis (21),Nand Kishor (21),Satbir (28),and Parvez (20) are the five alleged dacoits arrested,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said.

Man gets life term for killing wife
Deprecating the inhuman act of a man who had set his wife on fire following an argument,a city court has handed down rigorous life imprisonment to him with a stipulation that he shall not be entitled to any mercy by the state before completing 25 years of the prison term. Additional Sessions Judge Gurdeep Singh found the man,Rais,guilty under the charge of murder after relying on the dying declaration given by his wife. Rais had on July 30,2007 poured kerosene oil on his wife Rizwana and set her ablaze.

Boy’s body found
Body of a one-year-old baby boy was found dumped in a plastic bag in Kalindi Kunj in Jamia Nagar,Southeast delhi,on Tuesday. The police believe the baby was strangulated and dumped. A case has been registered and the body has been sent for postmortem.
