Two students arrested on molestation charges

Two Class XI students of a government school were arrested for allegedly molesting a 22-year-old woman from Arunachal Pradesh last week. According to the police,the girl,who studies in Jamia Millia Islamia,was molested by a few boys on Thursday on the premises of Chandrashekhar Government Boys’ High School in Southeast Delhi’s New Friends Colony,when she went inside to complain about some students teasing her. “We have arrested two students after the victim identified them,” a senior police officer said. The arrested were identified as Sandeep Kumar and Sandeep Singh,both aged 20. A case of molestation was registered at the New Friends Colony police station.

Three held for cheating

Three persons were arrested for allegedly trying to cheat a man by selling him a counterfeit US dollar notes. Lakhan Balmiki (31),Babloo (22) and Rajesh (20) were arrested following a complaint filed by Rohit Gohar for trying to sell him one million US dollar bills in exchange of Rs 1.5 crore,police said on Monday. Gohar told the police that Balmiki met him near Shastri Park Metro station and told him that he had US dollars and a gold plate worth around Rs 4.5 crore. Gohar told him that he could pay only Rs 4 to 5 lakh and then paid an advance of Rs 5,000. Later,Gohar became suspicious and asked them to return his money. “At this,the trio fled. Gohar overpowered Balmiki while the police caught his two associates,” a senior police official said.

Labourer drowns in DJB site

A 21-year-old worker died after he drowned in the pit he was digging for a Delhi Jal Board project in Bindapur area,West Delhi. The police said a nearby sewer pipeline burst,filling the pit the labourer,Parambeer Singh,was digging. Two other labourers,who were with Singh managed to climb out of the pit. A case of causing death due to negligence against the contractor has been registered. Contractor Aneesh Kumar has been arrested.

Man sets wife on fire

A 35-year-old woman was allegedly set on fire by her husband in Amar Colony,South Delhi,on Monday. The woman,Seema Yadav,is admitted at Safdarjung Hospital with 90 per cent burns. Police said that her husband,Briju Yadav,is absconding. Police said that a case of attempted murder has been registered against Briju.

Teacher shot at in shop

A teacher,Neeru Bari,was shot at in a showroom at Navyug Market of Ghaziabad. “The victim and her husband were entering a showroom when she suddenly fell down and blood started flowing from her arm,” a police official said. The victim was taken to Yashoda hospital where an X-Ray detected the bullet.

Kanpur cop gets bail

With the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) deciding not to oppose the bail plea of a Kanpur Police sub-inspector arrested in Delhi in a corruption case,a city court on Saturday allowed his release on bail. SI Jaiveer Singh was arrested last month by the ACB on the complaint of businessman Santosh Jaiswal. As per the complaint,Singh had come to Jaiswal’s house and told him that a criminal case was lodged against the latter at Nazirabad police station in Kanpur. Singh allegedly demanded Rs 1.25 lakh to bail him out of the case. Jaiswal had then approached the ACB and registered his complaint. Singh was arrested on September 17.
