17-year-old drowns in Kalkaji Ghat

New Delhi:A 17-year-old boy drowned while he and his friends were immersing the idol of Lord Ganesha in Kalkaji Ghat,Southeast Delhi on Monday evening. “Three youths were drowning,but two of them — Vivek and Rajiv — were rescued,but Raja drowned. Residents immediately informed us,and we approached the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) for help. A fire tender was rushed to the spot,” said a senior police officer. Raja was taken to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS),where doctors declared him dead.

Man jumps to death from Madipur Metro stn

New Delhi:A 35-year-old unemployed man jumped to death from the Madipur Metro station in West Delhi,late on Sunday night. He was allegedly depressed over being unable to find a job. The man has been identified as Kailash,a resident of Madipur. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Gambler kills 12-yr-old boy: Police

New Delhi:A 12-year-old boy,Ranjit,was allegedly killed by one of four men gambling outside his house in Aman Vihar,Outer Delhi,on Monday. Police said the four were consuming liquor and gambling outside Ranjit’s house and when his mother asked them to leave,they began abusing her. Ranjit came outside with a stick,which one of the gamblers snatched from his hand and hit the 12-year-old on his head,police said. The boy was declared dead at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

All India Teachers’ Convention held at DU

New Delhi:At the All India Teachers’ Convention at Delhi University on Monday,teachers raised concerns regarding the manner in which crucial policy decisions were being taken in the field of higher education,including the passing proposals for DU’s meta-college and meta-university courses. Vijendra Sharma,former DUTA president,said,“Most reforms in India are aimed at privatisation of education.” Concerns were raised regarding the appointment and service conditions of teachers in universities. There has been a “sharp increase in contractualisation of teaching”,the resolution said.

Finance firm fined

New Delhi:A district consumer forum has asked Tata Motors Finance to pay compensation to a customer for confiscating his vehicle,in violation of Supreme Court guidelines on repossession. Tata Motor Finance has been asked to pay Rs 2.5 lakh as compensation to Paharganj resident Ranjan Suri. The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum observed that the Tata Motor Finance in its reply has not shown that it gave any notice to the complainant. “The conduct of opposite party (Tata Motor Finance) is not in line with the law laid down by Supreme Court in a number of cases where it was held that civil procedure be conducted for repossession of vehicle for default of loan,” the forum said.
