Court awards Rs 20 lakh in damages to guard’s kin

New Delhi: The City Motor Accidents Claim Tribunal has ordered a compensation of over Rs 20 lakh to the family of a school guard,who was crushed under the wheels of a Haryana Roadways bus last year. Judge Dinesh Bhatt awarded the compensation to the family of Mempal (49),dismissing Haryana government’s contention that the Delhi Police had falsely implicated the bus driver. Mempal was riding his motorcycle on September 11,2010,when the bus crushed him at Metcalf Road. He is survived by his wife,two daughters,a son and 78-year-old father. Considering that Mempal was the lone earning member of the family,the court ordered the insurance company to pay a compensation of Rs 20,49,880 to his family within a month from the date of the order.

Talwar attacker Utsav Sharma to be released soon

Ghaziabad: Two sureties have been filed for the release of Utsav Sharma,who is in jail for allegedly assaulting and injuring murdered teen Aarushi Talwar’s father Rajesh Talwar,court sources said on Friday. Sharma (30) was arrested on January 25 after a case of attempt to murder was registered against him at Kavi Naga police station. Following the directives of Allahabad High Court,which had granted him bail on March 14,Sharma’s mother Indira has furnished two sureties for his release,sources said. After the verification of the sureties,a release order will be issued soon. Jail Superintendent Viresh Raj said that Sharma is under medical observation in jail hospital on the reference of two psychologists who had said that he is mentally disturbed.

Caretaker of former lawyer arrested with revolver

New Delhi: A caretaker of a former lawyer was arrested in west Delhi today while he was allegedly fleeing with his employer’s revolver,police said. An English revolver with six live cartridges was recovered from Brij Kishore. Kishore,who is from Bihar,told police that he came to Delhi in search of a job and was sent to a senior citizen’s home by a placement agency for his safety 45 days ago. V Renganathan,Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) said,“He stole the revolver of his master as he planned to rob rich persons.”
