New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday ruled that only legal heirs of a victim can file an appeal challenging the order of a lower court in a criminal case. Justice B D Ahmed dismissed the plea of a man,Chatter Singh,who had filed an appeal against the acquittal of the alleged murderer of his son on the ground that the victim’s wife and son were alive.

NDMC earmarks Rs 5 cr for public artwork

New Delhi: To install modern artwork in Lutyens’ Delhi every year,the NDMC has decided to earmark Rs 5 crore. The civic body will install a Rs 3-crore,30-feet stainless steel artwork —’Tree’ — in the lawns of New Delhi City Centre. It will take nine months to install the work.

Man sets himself ablaze in Bengali Market area

New Delhi: A man attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze in front of his family in New Delhi’s Bengali Market area on Friday morning. The police said the victim’s mother had reprimanded him for his drinking habit just before the incident. The police said the family was returning after shopping around 9.10 am when the victim,Rajesh (25),had an argument with his mother. He then took out a bottle of kerosene,poured it on himself and lit a match. He was rushed to RML Hospital with 80 per cent burns.

Elderly woman injured as assailant fires in air

New Delhi: A 58-year-old woman was injured when an unidentified man fired in the air outside her house in Outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala area on Thursday night. The accused reportedly asked for her son,and when she refused,he fired in the air with his gun. A case was registered.
