Trader robbed by armed bikers
Four unidentified armed bikers waylaid a businessman and robbed him of Rs 9 lakh in Southwest Delhi on Thursday evening,the police said. The incident happened in Najafgarh when the victim,Rajkumar Bansal (40),was going home in his car. He was carrying cash worth Rs nine lakh,which he had collected from traders.The four men were trailing him from Najafgarh and waylaid him near Nagal Dairy. They were armed, a senior police official said. A case has been registered.
Cop held for graft
A sub-inspector of the Delhi Police was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding money to settle a rape case. S-I Sharif Ahmed,posted at New Usmanpur police station,was arrested on Wednesday following investigations into a complaint filed in December last year,ACB officials said on Thursday. Ahmed has been sent in judicial custody till February 11.
Highway robber held
The South Delhi police arrested a highway robber who had escaped from the custody of the Jaipur Police last week on Wednesday. Police identified the 26-year-old as Umar,a resident of Haryanas Mewat district. Umar was arrested from Char Bagh area in Lodhi Colony where he had come to meet his accomplice,a senior police official said.
Court to babys rescue
The Delhi High Court on Thursday came to the rescue of an infant,who could not be treated at a Haryana hospital as her family did not hold a ration card,by directing the Delhi government to bring her to the Capital for free treatment. The order was passed on a petition filed by her aunt. A doctor,specialising in neonatology,should preferably accompany the ambulance which will bring the child to Delhi, the court said.
12 robbers arrested
With the arrests of 12 robbers,the Northeast Delhi police have claimed to have arrested two different gangs of highway robbers. Police said the gangs were involved in six highway robberies. Police recovered goods worth lakhs and a car from the possession of the accused.
Student robbed in bus
A 22-year-old computer hardware student was stabbed by a robber in a moving blueline bus in Southeast Delhi on Thursday evening,police said. The incident took place in Okhla Mod in New Friends Colony police station area at around 5 pm. The victim has been identified as Mohammad Sayyaz. He was stabbed when he tried to resist the robbery attempt. “An unidentified man tried to rob him after pointing a knife. The victim raised an alarm and then the robber became furious and stabbed him with the knife. After stabbing Sayyaz,he jumped out of the moving bus,” a senior police official said. Sayyazs consition is stated to be stable.
