George Fernandes in hospital
Former Defence Minister George Fernandes has been admitted to Max Devki Devi Super-Speciality centre after being diagnosed with neurological complications. According to hospital sources,the minister had been under treatment but was admitted on Friday after he came to the hospital for a routine check-up. In a medical bulletin issued on Saturday,the hospital said,George Fernandes,Rajya Sabha MP and former Defence Minister,was admitted on January 8 around 11 am for treatment for his underlying neurological condition.
Two robbers held
Northeast Delhi police arrested two people on Friday and claimed to have busted a gang of highway robbers. Police officials said they have also recovered robbed goods worth Rs 13.5 lakh from the accused Wasim Rafiq (22) and Gullu Chand (24). The recovered robbed items reportedly belong to Hindustan Unilever Limited and were robbed from Gokulpuri area on January 3.
CBSEs heritage run
The CBSE has launched an educational campaign across all schools to preserve and protect the heritage monuments in the country. The CBSE has also decided to celebrate January 12 as Heritage Day. The Board has also asked schools to organise events to sensitise the youth and inculcate in them a healthy value system towards their own heritage. The project will be part of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation for Class X,Vineet Joshi,chairperson of CBSE said in the circular.
Robbery bid at ATM
In a first of its kind case in the Capital,two unidentified men tried to rob a bank ATM using a large rock as a weapon. On Wednesday night,two men entered a Syndicate Bank ATM at Fatehpur Beri,and damaged the CCTV with a stone. The CCTV,however,continued to record the incident. The men then left the bank and returned with a larger stone,with which they tried to break the ATM machine. After trying for approximately 10 minutes,the men left. The bank complained to the Delhi Police,who have registered an attempt of robbery case.
9-year-old raped by neighbour
A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Mandir Marg area. Police officials said the incident was reported on Friday night. The police said the victim was alone at home when she was raped her parents work as domestic helps. A senior police officer said,The accused,Neeraj Kumar,is their neighbour. When he realised nobody was home,he went there. When the girl opened the door,he overpowered her and raped her. The police said when the victims parents returned home,they found her in a state of shock and bleeding severely. They rushed her to Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital,where doctors told them she had been raped and informed the police. The police registered a case against Kumar,who is absconding.
Man injured in house collapse
A 32-year-old man was seriously injured when around 11 pm on Friday the roof of his house in Aman Vihar,Outer Delhi,collapsed,the police said on Saturday. Police officials rushed the victim,identified as,Babulal to a hospital.
