Ambedkar Univ opens doors for UG courses

The first year of the programme,called the foundation year,will consist of introductory courses in English,quantitative analysis,social sciences,literature or fine arts and some other areas.

“At the time of admissions,students sometimes choose courses without knowing their content and often wish to change their stream later on. But at AUD,after studying two semesters,students would be in a better position to make an informed decision,” said Vice-Chancellor Shyam Menon. Eight-five per cent seats are reserved for students belonging to Delhi-NCR.

Apart from the regular three year BA courses,AUD is also offering a four-year BA (Hons) course giving dual major. This programme allow students to specialise in two streams,one that they chose at the graduation level and the other during the supplementary fourth year. Specialisation in streams like economics,psychology,history,sociology,politics and literature is offered.

Menon said,“The dual major programme will broaden the knowledge base of the students,and give them a heightened perspective of various streams of humanities without being restricted to one”.

The Delhi government has allotted AUD a 12-acre campus in Dwarka temporarily and the university is expected to shift to Kashmere Gate in the coming months. The university also plans to add many more courses next year. “In the next 10 years we hope to be in the same league as Delhi University,JNU,and Jamia Millia,” said the V-C.
