It seems fashion weeks and controversies thrive on each other. Hours before the countrys second India Couture Week was to begin in Mumbai today, the designers of the opening show stomped their feet and pulled out of the melee. Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, veteran couturiers and no strangers to mudslinging, have e-mailed a statement saying they have pulled out of the show.
The HDIL-sponsored India Couture Week was to go on till Friday, with makers of extravagant clothingSuneet Varma,Pallavi Jaikishan,Varun Bahl,Monsisha Jaisingh and Manav Gangwani presenting their fashion shows. Abu-Sandeep (picture),as the designer duo are known, say they have withdrawn due to non-cooperation of staff of an event management company.
The event management staff was not only disrespectful to the designers but also unable to provide appropriate seating for their valued guests. In spite of repeated requests, the company has not reverted with any workable solution to this date and time. We regret this announcement on the eve of our show, but cannot risk our guests being offended due to unorganised seating.
The designers wanted more seats allotted to their VIP guests, many of who are from the film industry, while the show organisers couldnt take away seats marked for various sponsors guests and give them to the designers.
The India Couture Week spokesperson stated that the Week will now begin on Monday instead, with a jewellery show by Devaunshi Mehta,Queenie Dhody,Farah Khan and Maheep Kapoor.
