The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has christened around 30 colony parks,streets and community centres,naming them in honour of freedom fighters,former kings and spiritual organisations.
A small road in Malviya Nagar has been named Bhram Kumari Marg,while a tiny park in Dilshad Garden will be called Maharaja Surajmal park.
Some names belong to famous people of the area. Residents of these areas came to the MCD with requests for naming of parks. Names are approved after deliberations, said a senior official of the MCD.
The road connecting Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Marg with Bada Bazaar,or the road from Pusa Road,will be called Mahinder Prakash Gupta Marg. The road opposite link road abutting Silver Oak Park below Defence Colony flyover for access to Jungpura Extension has been named Late Sardar Kuldip Singh Gujral Marg.
A new park in Arjun Park has been named after a festival,and will be called Chhat Park. In Pashchim Vihar,a new park has been named Late Shri Devi Ram Guptaji Park.
On Monday,six parks of Subhash Nagar got christened Baba Deep Singhji Vatika,Baba Amarnath Vatika,Shri Krishan Vatika,Shri Ram Vatika,Swami Vivekanand Vatika and Parshuram Vatika. Shaheed Rajguru and Bhagat Singh got space at Ward 165 and Nehru Nagar,respectively.
For road naming,proposals from individuals and organisation are first approved by the councillor of the ward. It is then sent to the road naming and renaming committee of the MCD,which studies the proposal and checks the feasibility.
