8 BJP workers admitted to RML with fractures

Over 60 BJP workers were brought to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with injuries they sustained during police action against them during an anti-government protest at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday.

Over 60 BJP workers were brought to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with injuries they sustained during police action against them during an anti-government protest at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday.

The protesters were demanding Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s resignation for alleged corruption,when police reportedly restored to lathicharge against them. However,police has denied the use of baton to disperse the BJP activists.

Three policemen were also among those brought to the hospital.

According to Dr T S Sidhu,Medical Superintendent at RML Hospital,“We attended to 62 patients,eight of whom were admitted. Those admitted have sustained fractures in the forearm,upper-arm and wrists. There are no cases of life threatening injuries.”

Around 7.30 pm,senior BJP leaders visited the hospital. Sources at the Hospital said there was chaos in the emergency department,with many party workers shouting slogans in the emergency,where all the injured were brought.

“By the time the politicians arrived,the crowd went into a frenzy. We had quite a task managing the injured and keeping the crowd in control,” a hospital security official said.

Police said three CISF personnel suffered serious injuries. One head constable suffered injuries on his nose while another lost three teeth. A police constable had to get five stitches on his head.

According to the Emergency Control Room officer at RML,“Till midnight,around 30 medico legal cases were registered in the surgical emergency and 60 at orthopedic emergency,but they were all minor injuries. Only three people have sustained fractures in the limbs,and casts have been administered,they will be discharged in the morning. The five others who were admitted had sustained soft tissue injuries,we are keeping them till morning for observation.”
