Police have arrested three women — identified as Priti,Ayesha and Roshni — for allegedly committing thefts in crowded places, especially buses. All the three are married, and reside in Mayapuri.

The matter came to light when one Mamta filed a written complaint to the police stating that a woman, who was standing next to her in a bus,had stolen her purse. After picking her pocket, the woman had allegedly passed it on to another person standing a little further off.

As soon as the bus slowed down, the three hopped off and tried to flee. Alerted by Mamta’s cries, passersby caught hold of the three women and called the police control room.

Mamta said the incident occurred around 3.30 pm,while she was on her way to Bangla Sahib Gurudwara.

Police have taken the three women into judicial custody, and are trying to ascertain if they have a history of crime.
