A 12-Year-old boy was electrocuted in the Krishna Nagar area of East Delhi on Sunday morning after he accidentally touched the switch box of a floodlight installed in the Rajiv Gandhi mini-stadium there.

Harshit Budhiraja had left his home in Rajgarh Colony at 8 am on Sunday to play with his friends in the nearby Rajiv Gandhi mini-stadium. According to the police, while playing, the ball landed in the bushes and Harshit went to collect it. “The ground had high voltage lights installed and the boy seems to have accidentally touched the box covering the live wires while retrieving the ball,” said a police officer.

The naked wires were visible from a distance and,the police said, the boy could have been electrocuted as the entire area was wet due to the rains. The BSES officers said the place where the boy was playing was not under their jurisdiction and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was responsible for the work there.

Harshit was a student of Class VI at St Lawrence School in Geeta Colony.
