11-yr-old mowed down by speeding truck

An 11-year-old Class VI student of Gyan Bharti Public School in Naraina was killed while his younger brother,a Class V student,suffered critical injuries after a speeding truck hit the motorbike they were riding on near the Burari bypass.

An 11-year-old Class VI student of Gyan Bharti Public School in Naraina was killed while his younger brother,a Class V student,suffered critical injuries after a speeding truck hit the motorbike they were riding on near the Burari bypass.

The police said the brothers,Gagan and Ankit (10),were returning home with a school staffer,Sumit,who was driving the motorcycle. None of them was wearing a helmet.

“Eyewitnesses said the speeding mini-truck hit the motorcycle from behind. The boys sustained head injuries and were rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital where the doctors pronounced Gagan dead on arrival. Ankit is undergoing treatment,” said a police officer.

Sagar Preet Hooda,DCP (North Delhi),said the truck driver has been arrested. The truck owner has been called for questioning,the police said. Officials added that the children’s father is a supervisor at the school. The school staffer,Sumit,resides in the same colony as the brothers. “We will question the school staff as they were flouting traffic norms,” the police said.
