The KP Agrahara police have busted a gang of 14 Jharkhand natives that stole high-end cellphones. Eight gang members are juvenile.

The gang would come to Bangalore every few months,go on a two-week stealing spree and return to Jharkhand to sell the phones,the police said.

This time they were in Bangalore for a week and had stolen 46 phones,including 22 Samsung Galaxy and Grand,nine Nokias and four iPhones,worth about Rs 6 lakh.

The six adult gang members are Akash Kumar (20),Amaranath Mehto (22),Vikram Kumar (20),Vicky Kumar (19),Vijay Kumar Mehto (20) and Samu (19).

The juveniles have been handed over to Bosco,an NGO that will send them home,the police said.

The accused used to stay in lodges in and around the Majestic area and mostly target youths in Madivala,Vijayanagar,RT Nagar and Koramangala.

The juveniles would pick handsets from pockets of the targets in shops or hotels.

The police suspect the gang is run by Sunil Kumar Mehto of Delhi.

“We will get more information about the gang once we arrest Mehto,” an officer said.
