The doctors who examined the girl declared her dead on arrival. (Representational) A four-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu lost her life after sustaining burn injuries during the Deepavali festival Sunday. According to the police, the girl accidentally got injured after her uncle Vignesh set off crackers. The incident happened at Mambakkam panchayat in Ranipet district around 6:15 pm Sunday.
The girl screamed in pain and was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital by her parents Ramesh and Ashwini. The doctors who examined the girl declared her dead on arrival.
According to the police, the incident happened after Vignesh attempted to burst a cracker with his right hand while holding the girl in his left hand. In the sudden explosion, Vignesh lost four of his fingers, and the girl sustained a heavy burn injury to her chest, among others.
The police have registered a case against Vignesh under Section 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed his condolences and announced an ex gratia of Rs 3 lakh to the family of the deceased girl and Rs 1 lakh to the injured Vignesh.
