The BJP has constituted a four-member delegation to visit Tamil Nadu and study the “brutal and irrational behaviour” the party workers have been facing from the DMK government.

The delegation formed by party president J P Nadda has former Karnataka chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda, MP Satya Pal Singh, BJP Andhra Pradesh president D Purandeswari, and MP P C Mohan as its members.

The move by the BJP comes after the city police arrested party functionaries on Saturday. A scuffle broke out between them and the police, who, alongside the workers from the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCP), were removing a 45-foot-tall BJP flagpole installed outside the residence of Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai. The flagpole was reportedly installed without obtaining any prior permission from the corporation.

The police noted that the flagpole installed in the public space was closer to the high-tension line, causing a threat to public life. The BJP workers led by state vice-president Karu Nagarajan staged a dharna. The police arrested them and later left them on bail.

Based on a complaint of an assistant executive officer of the GCP, the police registered a case against six BJP workers who reportedly damaged the bulldozer brought to remove the flagpole.

Annamalai took to X and thanked Nadda for constituting the four-member delegation. He noted that he is confident that the delegation will bring to light the excesses of the state government and the gross misuse of power by the DMK in the last 30 months.

Annamalai said the state BJP’s social media functionaries have been constantly harassed and arrested on frivolous charges and exaggerated sections were imposed. He alleged that DMK functionaries and the police filed most cases under pressure to satisfy the ego of corrupt DMK ministers.

“Midnight and early morning arrests, not serving 41A summons, and applying fresh frivolous charges while the bail is due and arresting them on the eve of weekends or before long government holidays are the modus operandi of this draconian DMK government,” he said.

Annamalai Sunday visited the houses of party functionaries arrested by the city police and spoke to their families. He said he had told them to stay strong and that the party would provide them required support.
