As Palanivel Thiaga Rajan was replaced as Tamil Nadu’s finance minister on Thursday, days after he was embroiled in an audio clip row, AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami alleged that a leaked audio clip on “corruption in the DMK’s first family” had rattled the entire government.

“Corruption has taken place. All media outlets have reported this and the public started to raise questions. So the government has made the changes. Because of one audio, the entire government and the cabinet have been rattled,” Palaniswami said in Salem, questioning the need for a cabinet shuffle.

Palaniswami said the former finance minister had said in an audio clip that two people had accumulated Rs 30,000 crore. He said that the minister had not been removed from the cabinet but given a different portfolio because the DMK feared that more information about corruption in the party would otherwise come out. He added that more audio tapes might come out in the future.

For his part, Thiaga Rajan has previously said the clip was doctored.

“In the last two years, there has been nothing but corruption in the M K Stalin-led government,” the former AIADMK general secretary alleged.

While commenting on the collaboration between AMMK leader T T V Dhinakaran and expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam, Palaniswami said that zero plus zero would be nothing but zero.

“TTV had called Panneerselvam a traitor and Panneerselvam had called TTV a traitor and now these two have joined as a team… The people of Tamil Nadu know who the traitors are now. Yesterday (Tuesday) (veteran politician) Panrutti Ramachandran met reporters with Dhinakaran and Panneerselvam. Panrutti Ramachandran has never been loyal to any party. He opposed Amma (J Jayalalithaa), went to the PMK and then to the DMDK. Wherever he had set his foot, that was the end of the road for that party. He has no moral right to talk about the AIADMK,” Palaniswami said.

The former chief minister claimed that Panneerselvam was acting as the DMK’s B-team and cited his recent meeting with Chief Minister Stalin’s son-in-law Sabareesan as proof. Panneerselvam had met Sabareesan while watching an IPL cricket match at Chepauk and the latter said there was nothing political about the meeting. Palaniswami, however, said that Sabareesan was the DMK’s power centre.

Earlier in the day, Thiaga Rajan was moved to the information technology and digital services department and Thangam Thennarasu from the industries department to the finance department in a major reshuffle that saw a few other changes as well.
