Youth stabbed to death in Jujhar Nagar after minor dispute; police register murder case

A 23-year-old golgappa vendor, Mukesh Baghel, was brutally stabbed to death by a group of youths in Jujhar Nagar village near Kharar on Thursday, following a dispute that began a night earlier.

In a shocking incident in Jujhar Nagar village under Balongi police station, over half a dozen youths allegedly stabbed 23-year-old Mukesh Baghel to death on Thursday. Mukesh, who ran a golgappa cart, was attacked around 1 pm.

According to the police, Mukesh was rushed to Civil Hospital, Phase 6, in a critically injured state, where doctors declared him dead. His post-mortem is scheduled for Friday. The police registered a murder case against unknown assailants under relevant sections.

Mukesh, a resident of Jujhar Nagar, lived near his maternal cousin. On the night of December 31, his cousin’s brother-in-law, Balbir, was drinking with neighbours when an argument started, during which the neighbours allegedly abused Mukesh’s father. Mukesh’s sister informed the family over the phone. The next morning, when Mukesh went to talk to the neighbours, a minor scuffle broke out, which was initially resolved.

However, around 1 pm, while Mukesh was on his way to speak with his brother-in-law, a group of 10 to 12 youths armed with weapons surrounded him. Mukesh informed his brother over the phone about the attack. His brother, Barjesh, along with their father, rushed to help, but the attackers stabbed Mukesh before fleeing the scene. Mukesh was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Kharar DSP Karn Sandhu stated that the father’s statements have been recorded and that the police have registered a murder case against unidentified attackers.
