The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) is going to observe the World Glaucoma Week from March 11 to 17 in an effort to spread awareness about the disease.

The Advanced Eye Centre at the PGI will organise a screening camp for families of those affected with primary glaucoma on March 10 from 3 pm to 5 pm.

A talk will be delivered and patients’ and care-givers’ perspectives will also be heard.

A glaucoma awareness walk will be held by the Glaucoma Society of India in association with the Chandigarh Ophthalmological Society on March 11 at 8 am from the Rock Garden to the Lake.

The patients who have undergone treatment at the Advanced Eye Centre are going to form a Glaucoma Patients Support Group to guide others suffering from the disease. The aim behind formation of the group will be to provide proper guidance to glaucoma patients, said H S Oberoi,a part of the group.

“The idea is to create awareness among the patients and give them proper guidance for the correct treatment,” he said.
