Workshop on inclusive education held

The two-day 14th national quarterly review meeting and workshop on inclusive education was inaugurated at Chandigarh on Monday.

The two-day 14th national quarterly review meeting and workshop on inclusive education was inaugurated at Chandigarh on Monday. It was a follow up of the national workshop held in May this year at New Delhi,which was attended by experts in the field of inclusive education.

The workshop was organised by technical support group of MHRD and hosted by Sarva Shiksha Abhyan,Chandigarh. Co-ordinators from 30 states and UTs attended it and it was inaugurated by Sunil Bhatia,Director,Public Instruction (schools),who is also the state Project Director for SSA.

Sushil Kumar from MHRD gave a keynote address on guidelines to strengthen resource rooms,block resource centres and cluster resource centres for academic support to children with special needs. While talking about the objectives,he laid emphasis on training of general teachers,capacity building of existing resource teachers and various stake holders under SSA.

Bharti Kapoor of ODE,a NGO,talked about concept of learning disability,its various types,assessment and remediation,followed by group work on areas for inclusion of learning-disabled children in mainstream and guidelines for caregivers,volunteers,parents.

Later,Dr B S Chavan,Joint Director Regional Institute of Mental Retardation,gave a presentation on mainstreaming children with mental challenges.
