A 35-year-old resident of Ram Darbar allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze here on Sunday night. Meenu Devi,mother of four,was admitted to the Sector-32 Government Medical College and Hospital with 95 per cent burns. She died on Monday morning.
The police are yet to establish the reason behind the extreme step as her husband Bharat Singh,a labourer,claimed that she was under depression and was undergoing treatment at the GMCH.
The police said Bharat told the investigating officials that he came from job last night and was watching TV when his wife locked herself in a room. She doused herself with kerosene oil and set herself on fire.
The victim was rushed to the GMCH,where the doctors declared her unfit to record her statement. The post-mortem would be conducted after the victims parents arrive,the police said.
Meanwhile,the police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
