Ward 7 bypoll: BSP fields Seema Yadav

The Bahujan Samaj Party on Friday announced its candidate for the by-elections at ward number 7.

The Bahujan Samaj Party on Friday announced its candidate for the by-elections at ward number 7. The party would be fielding Seema Yadav,a resident of Maloya Colony,in the municipal elections. The announcement was made at a rally.

BSP MPs Narender Kashyap and Avtar Singh Karimpuri along with convenor of the city unit of BSP Haffiz Anwar-ul-Haq were present on the occasion. The BSP is the first party that officially announced its candidate for the election.

Yadav had during the municipal elections contested as an Independent from the area and polled 1,500 votes. The BSP candidate at that time had polled 2,300 votes. The BSP leaders are counting on the fact that the two combined would ensure that another seat is added to the party’s kitty. The senior party leaders appealed to the people gathered at the rally to vote for their candidate. Ward 7 is reserved for a woman candidate. The seat was vacated after BJP councillor Laxmi Devi passed away.

At present, the BSP has two councillors in the MC House. If the party wins one more seat,it would be in a position to have a say in the Mayoral elections. With both the Congress and BJP-SAD alliance having 11 seats each in the house, the support of BSP would be essential for election of the Mayor. Apart from the 26 elected councillors, there are nine nominated councillors who vote in the Mayoral elections.

The Congress and BJP-SAD are yet to announce their candidates.
