The forms move from physical to metaphysical, human to spiritual, the movement being an effortless flow characteristic of MK Puri’s works. Titled Bandishain (The Compositions),the exhibition is currently on at the Art Folio.

Puri describes his paintings as a sum of life’s experiences. “I like the viewer to interpret my works according to their interests, without me guiding them in any way,’’ he says. An ardent classical music lover,Puri sees paintings and sculptures as a visual brandish, each painting an independent composition, with music and painting complementing each other as the language of ear and eye. Many of Puri’s paintings have musicians as the theme, their moods and gestures captured from live performances.

Puri has worked for years in oil and on paper and done both ceramics and sculptures while developing his painting. Of late,he has been working with acrylics and on large canvases. Often,he uses the wash technique for an added transparency to his paintings. The multilayered images, explains Puri, sometimes assume an extended identity of the main form, drawing inspiration from mythological images and philosophical interpretation of human existence. Pressing social issues, whether environment or climate change, also find creative expression. “Geometry and line is an important component of art which envelops all visual forms. I use it for understanding relationships,” he signs off.

The exhibition is on at Art Folio till April 27.
