Vienna-Amritsar flight — a passengers’ delight

“DO YOU know it is the perfect flight to the Golden Temple?” — this is how most passengers, who had migrated to Europe long ago, described Comtel Air’s Vienna-Amritsar charter flight after they landed at the Amritsar airport on Sunday.

“DO YOU know it is the perfect flight to the Golden Temple?” — this is how most passengers, who had migrated to Europe long ago, described Comtel Air’s Vienna-Amritsar charter flight after they landed at the Amritsar airport on Sunday.

Around 9.15 am,195 people landed at the airport in a plane that has a capacity to fly 220 passengers. “It was the maiden direct non-stop flight from Vienna to Amritsar. It took just six hours to land in Amritsar, which is much less than what one will take if he travels from Amritsar to Delhi by road,” said Amrjit Singh,a passenger from UK. He added: “It is the easiest way to come home. Earlier,we had to come to Delhi first. All flights from Delhi to Europe take more time because of halts that could run into several hours.”

Amarjit was not the only one upbeat over Sunday’s inaugural flight.

“It used to take us 11 to 12 hours to reach UK. But with this flight,it will take just six hours,” said another passenger. “The flight was packed in no time. We had made all the bookings much before the inaugural flight,” said Comtel Air Marketing Director Jasbir Mann, who is based in the UK.

“The response is huge in Europe as well. Everyone was happy after learning about this flight,as many elderly people, who wanted to come home but could not because of long flights, have started making plans to visit India,” said Comtel Air CEO Richard, who was also on board.

Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Shidu, who welcomed the passengers at the air strip, said: “It is a charter flight and outbound trip is not permitted at the moment. But after Diwali, regular flights (four-times a week) will be started.” Till Diwali, the charter flight will operate twice a week.

“This flight, which is all economy, will connect 30 European destinations at the Vienna airport. Feeder planes will bring the passengers to the airport for their journey from Vienna to Amritsar,” said Sidhu. Those travelling in the flight will be further connected to domestic flights to Mumbai and Takht Hazoor Sahib Nanded free of cost,” he added.
