The cold wave continued in the city with the minimum temperature on Sunday recorded at 2.8 degrees Celsius three degrees below normal. The maximum temperature,however,saw a slight rise and was recorded at 19.8 degrees C,one degree below normal.
The minimum temperature in Chandigarh continued to be less than its neighbouring hilly regions. While Dharamshala recorded a minimum of 4 degrees C,the minimum temperature was 4.3 degrees C in Jammu and 6 degrees C in Shimla.
While last year,the minimum temperature in the city in December had touched 0.8 degrees C,between 2006 to 2009,the minimum did not dip below 3 degrees C.
Moreover,while the lowest minimum temperature recorded in 2009 was 3.2 degrees C,it was 5 degrees C in 2008 and 3 degrees C in the two years before that. The lowest ever minimum was recorded on December 31,1973 0 degrees C.
The Met Department has predicted that the cold wave will continue in the coming days and the weather is also expected to remain dry.
