At the CII’s Secure North 2014, for the first time, an underwater camera was on display at the stall of engineer BS Bhathal. The camera which has been tested at a depth of five feet in Bhakra canal has been bought from America.
Talking to Newsline, Bhathal said, “I had invented such a camera but when I tested it, the camera which I invested failed. I searched online for such equipment and found company, Sea Viewers which was being extensively used by the police forces in the US for underwater search.”
Explaining the system, Bhathal showed a fish like device with a head and a tail which was connected to a cable which can be as long as the one using it wants. “The cables for the system was also bought from America the which are also water proof”, he said.
The entire equipment costs Rs 1.65 lakhs. “It has been tested by Khanaur Deputy Commissioner in Sangrur District and they have also sent a proposal for getting the equipment. All the dead bodies which are fished out from Bhakra are done at Khanaur. So, it is best if one such equipment is there”, Bhathal said.
He also added that the camera is of 700 TVL, which is a very high resolution. It can also be used for recording the footage if connected to a recoding device.
In the recent incident where students from Hyderabad were washed away in Manali, Bhathal said, the equipment would have been useful in finding out the bodies of the deceased students.
A plug and use system, sea-viewer can tell the position, colour of clothes the person is wearing and the exact location of the body. It can detect underwater for nearly five meters radius.
An engineer with Texla Televisions for nearly 14 years, Bhathal is based in Nabha, and has a corporate office in Sector 35, Chandigarh. Bhathal left Texla televisions for starting this firm and deals with security equipment. He said that they have installed the CCTV cameras with GPS in a UT Police’s mobile police station which the SSP monitors from his mobile.
