UID issuance to start this week

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the District Grievances Removal Committee at Municipal Bhawan in Sector 68,Kairon said adequate number of centres will be set up across the state to provide a 12-digit UID,also called Aadhar,to each and every individual free of cost,close to their doorsteps.

“Since the work involves person-to-person dealing,the entire exercise is targeted to be completed within six months,” claimed the minister of the nodal department for implementation of the national exercise in Punjab.

He disclosed that to register for UID,every citizen will be required to carry a proof of residence and identity,failing which the sarpanch/patwari/kanungo/lamberdar/councillor will be required as an introducer for such person’s registration.

Besides primary information of every individual,impression of 10 fingers and iris scan will be saved in the Central ID Repository for issuance of UID.

Calling upon the residents to get their UIDs,which will be delivered by post at the given address within a month of enrolment,at their nearest centre,the minister said the UID will not only be a hassle-free medium to prove one’s identity but will also enable the residents to draw maximum benefits of government’s welfare schemes in an easy manner.

Earlier,chairing the meeting,Kairon gave a patient hearing to the public grievances put forth before him and directed the district administration to ensure time-bound redressal.
