Two-day workshop at PGI today

The Neonatal Unit of the Department of Paediatrics,PGIMER,will be organising a two-day workshop on the theme,‘How to Set Up a Good Neonatal Unit’,from Saturday.

The Neonatal Unit of the Department of Paediatrics,PGIMER,will be organising a two-day workshop on the theme,‘How to Set Up a Good Neonatal Unit’,from Saturday. It will end on Sunday.

This workshop is the sixth in a series of single-theme workshops that the neonatal unit has conducted over the last decade. The previous workshops were on basic clinical issues among newborns. This year,the workshop will focus on the practical aspects of setting up and maintaining a good un it for treating newborns. The workshop will cover unique issues that are seldom formally taught to doctors in the course of their training.

The workshop will deal with accreditation of neonatal units,the architecture and physical infrastructure of neonatal ICUs,training and retaining the right kind of nursing and medical manpower,selecting the best equipment,maintaining the finances of a neonatal unit,standardising patient data management,making standard treatment protocols,tackling medico-legal issues,establishing follow-up services,family-centric neonatal care,safety issues,quality assurance and prevention of epidemics in such units.

There will be four panel discussions,which will cover a broad range of issues,including the differences and similarities between setting up neonatal units in the public sector,private sector and corporate sector. The delegates would comprise child specialists from all over India. The faculty of the workshop would include 12 experts from leading public and private sector hospitals in India.
