Together,Cyrus Broacha & Kunal Vijaykar can whip up quite a laughing storm

Post the dramarama of the austerity drive,Cyrus Broacha arrived at one conclusion – the best profession in the world is politics. “Forget about being a doctor or engineer. If you’re in this country, then be a politician. It doesn’t matter how rich or poor you are or what drive you are on,you’ll get everything – from chauffeur driven cars, plenty of land deals, your children will go straight to Yale, there’ll be trips abroad – political life is one heck of a life!” Broacha’s pretty serious about this latest career advise. Online along with partner in ‘sarcastically-driven’ crime,Kunal Vijaykar, the two are in a celebratory mood. It’s been three years and 150 episodes of their ‘The Week The Wasn’t’,and together, they are whipping up quite a laughing storm.

“Ironically,we live in a humourous country which is unable to laugh at themselves,” points out Kunal, who recently made a debut as a director with his film,Fruit ‘n’ Nut. “Ah,well that’s another story. I think I made a good film, but unfortunately the audience never got into the space of the film. To add to it,there were other issues like lack of revenue for promotion and the critics were ruthless,” although he was ‘rammed’ badly,Kunal has not given up and will definitely come up with more. But back to the news that was,and the two have been devouring the front page religiously. “You can only work on something that’s top of the mind and in your face, and that’s the headlines. So,we choose front page news, brainstorm on the ideas and go cracking about it,” they’ve entertained and tickled us with hilarious takes on Mayawati,Narendra Modi, the austerity drive et al. And now,on the completion of 150 episodes, the two will showcase the best of the gags and take us behind the scenes and the making of the show.

With so many comments and crackerjack jokes flying around,we are curious whether they get hate mails or not. “Of course we do!” shoots Cyrus. “The best ones come from across the border when we indulge in Pakistan bashing. In fact,we have live debates and fights carrying on on youtube,” they tell us.

When they first mooted the concept, they never hoped it would go this far. But like Cyrus says,”we play it the way it is for we,as a country, are world record holders in parody and humour. Our politicians are mindblowing, and their crazy comments and antics will keep our show alive and kicking.” Cheers to more! Tune into CNN IBN on Sunday,November 8 at 10:30am and 9pm for the celebrations.
