Two to Tango

If Day One was all about getting started,Day Two of the Chandigarh Fashion Week (CFW) saw a shift in gears.

Day Two of the Chandigarh Fashion Week delivered with theme-based collections,high-end jewellery & style with substance

If Day One was all about getting started,Day Two of the Chandigarh Fashion Week (CFW) saw a shift in gears. The packed to the house shows rolled out in time courtesy an active choreographer Kaushik Ghosh and a new line-up of leggy ladies, including the svelte Candice Pinto Candice,Mrs Gladrags contestant and city lady Dr Neetu Narula, showcasing not just designer ensembles but lots of bling as well. Here’s how the day went:

ALL THAT GLITTERS: Opening Day Two were back-to-back jewellery shows. The first half was dominated by AV Jewellers who presented the best of bling with their diamond jewellery showcase. Going by the styles showcased, chandelier earrings with flowing neckpieces seem to be the current trend. The jewellery house also highlighted all-diamond sets offset with just two colours, rubies with their red and emeralds with their green. Contemporary in design, the styling was exquisite. The second part of the show saw jewellery designer Deepika Gupta and her label, Carrat 22 make an appearance. Gupta made the most of uncut diamonds (Polki) and Kundan set in traditional Indian designs and opulence surely was her forte!

BRIDAL BEST: Even though we may be on the fag end of the wedding season, designer labels continued to showcase their take for the bride to be. Ludhiana-based Monika Kapoor Chaudhary presented her trousseau collection that made the most of velvet. “So far I have been running an exclusive and a private label but the Chandigarh Fashion Week was the perfect opportunity to showcase my work to a larger audience,’’ remarked Monika whose lineup included heavily embellished lehengas, sarees and suits. Her other label ‘Mona Zafar’ saw a complete range of wedding wear for a groom. It was interesting to see subtle use of embroidery and styling in achkans and sherwanis for men. Monika would also be opening the finale line-up on Sunday with Satya Paul and Ritu Kumar.

Another highlight of Day Two was Delhi-based designer Sulakshna Monga whose latest collection under the label ‘Soltee’ made the most of the Indian peacock! “My entire collection is based on the peacock. The colour palette is from the blues family and I have incorporated the qualities of pride, vanity and arrogance attributed to a peacock,’’ mentioned Monga,as we noticed the collection making the most of luxurious fabrics, rich vivid colours and intense styling. Also presenting their take on fashion was label ‘Royal Rajware’ and Chandigarh-based designer Asha Kumar. The latter’s collection seemed a season old but she did score as far as the Indo-Westerns were concerned. The last part of the evening was reserved for designers Charu Prasher,Arpan Vohra and Sonu Gandhi.

STYLE WITH A CAUSE: If Day One brought in quintessential fashion week elements like showstoppers and the like,Day Two had Ludhiana-based designer Sonu Gandhi all set to showcase style with substance. “I have been designing for 13 years and this year I decided to make more than just a style statement,” mentioned the designer who planned to get little girls to walk the ramp to highlight her support to the girl child and the NGO ‘Sponsor a Child’.
