Two get 7-year RI for robbery attempt

A local court on Wednesday convicted two men of attempting to commit robbery armed with deadly weapon in Panchkula.

A local court on Wednesday convicted two men of attempting to commit robbery armed with deadly weapon in Panchkula. Surya Pratap Singh,a resident of Raebarelli in UP,and Jai Kishan,a resident of Nangal,were sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

While Surya Pratap was already in custody,Jai Kishan was out on bail. The duo were arrested by the Panchkula Police in March this year.

The police had received secret information about two men preparing to commit an armed robbery near the road adjacent to Aggarwal Bhawan,Sector 16,Panchkula. A raiding team was then set up.

On reaching the spot,the two men carrying a pistol and a knife were spotted by the police. When a Sub-Inspector approached them,the two men then threatened him to hand over all his belongings. They were,however,soon overpowered by the police team.

Surya Pratap,who possessed a pistol of 315 bore with a live cartridge,was also awarded three years of imprisonment and was slapped with a penalty of Rs 1,000 under Section 25 of the Arms Act by the court of Additional District and Sessions Jude Rajesh Garg. The two sentences would,however,run concurrently.
